early Christmas

Since Ginger and I are leaving Thursday for Michigan (as Peter is on call Christmas Eve and doesn't really have enough time off after to make the drive there), we decided to have our own Christmas at home on Monday (Peter's second day off of the month...).

One of my favorite Christmas traditions with my family is stockings, and while I won't attempt to replicate the fabulously stuffed stockings my mom does, I at least had to replicate the personalized stockings, now that we have a mantel to hang them on.Since Peter said there wasn't really anything major he wanted for Christmas this year, I decided to get him a few things to put in his stocking, including some gift certificates to some new restaurants to try next time he gets a weekend off.
I may or may not have stuck a few things in my own (something from my mom to carry on!), but then Peter completely outdid the pretty good stocking I put together for him when he got me a couple books for inside the stocking, plus a little note to find the coat I wanted under the tree, along with a little note to find a sparkly cool watch I wanted. He admits to overdoing it a bit on the gifts, but it's nice to be rewarded with a nice new (warm) coat for being the one to do the vast majority of the dog walking.... And I'm still trying to figure out how Peter managed to get all of these things and keep them as surprises while working something like 100 hours a week.and look how nicely he wrapped this book!

I bought Ginger way too much stuff to even fit in her cute little stocking, but I couldn't help myself. I would have bought several of these items for her anyway.... and my other excuse is that her estimated birth date is around now as well, so her first Christmas with us and her first birthday call for some presents, right?Peter stuck a few pieces of her food in there, so she would tear
at the paper and open it herself...

trying on her new coat!

Christmas remix #1

True to my lessons learned from the 30 for 30 challenge, I've been working on making new outfits out of the clothes I already have, and it's been kind of fun, so yes, here I am back talking about clothes again: After coming up with what felt like a season-appropriate but not completely season-obvious outfit using this sweater that I rarely wear, I thought it would be fun to mix up some holiday season outfits. This is pretty much the only red item of clothing I own - I think I avoid red because of my hair color, but I'm not sure if I need to? My mom bought this sweater several years ago and I love the zip-up cable-knit style, but I find myself wearing it about once a year, partly because it's just so red, and partly because in my pre-remixing days I wasn't creative enough to wear it with anything beyond a white long-sleeved tee and a scarf.
I thought adding a longer brown shirt (I like longer lengths these days - maybe one reason I wear the sweater less) plus the leopard-print belt toned it down a little bit, and I felt very fitting for December with a cozy and kind of festive sweater, but still me.

Now to find another way to wear my red sweater...
