I think I am not a particularly cool person... but every once in a while I get on a trend while it's actually still in (though it should be known that I judge what a current trend is by what knockoffs Target is selling). The two trends I am doing this summer:
- Hats. (Examples: looking cute on Van, Kendi, Linda.) This is excellent timing, as I'm growing my hair out and it's getting to the really awkward stage. I still feel a little strange walking around in a hat, but it is a presentable hair option (besides stubby ponytail), and with a super clearance $10 fedora, it was worth trying out. Of course, vanity about one's hair presentation for a trip to the farmers' market on a 97 degree afternoon is a little silly when one is sweating through her shirt anyway...

- Toms. I'd seen these all over the place and heard rumors of their being quite comfortable... and they ARE. I wear them to walk the dog and walk to town all the time, and I even wore them for 5 hours of sightseeing on foot in Japan with absolutely no foot soreness after. I have officially joined this bandwagon - it doesn't hurt that every time I wear them, Peter comments on how cool I am. Or that for every pair purchased Toms donates a pair to a child in need. I opted for a neutral green but have my eye on several snazzier pairs for when I wear these out.
Aw, thanks Anne. You look great in hats! I just love them, especially my fedoras. I feel like I'm in disguise and it often completely transforms my mood when I'm grumpy that my in-between hair isn't cooperating. Hats = Sass.
ReplyDeleteYou look so cute in your hat!
ReplyDeleteI love my Toms - I also have a pair of the wedges, which are SO comfortable and I swear I get at least 1 compliment every time I wear them. Unfortunately, it's been a little over a year since I bought them, and they're falling apart. I think I'd buy them again though...
I'm glad to hear you walked for 5 hours in them and they were okay. I've been contemplating for quite a while about buying a pair of Toms but I wasn't sure if they'd hurt my feet after trekking around in them. For so long I've been meaning to get those red Toms. But a colorful one would be a luxury at this point--I think I've gotta do a neutral one first like navy. Get the red so I can live vicariously through you!
ReplyDeleteYou look really cute in your hat! It took me awhile to get on with the fedora hat trend, but I have ended up really liking it. I thought I looked silly with my shorter hair, but after seeing Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham rocking it, I said why not?!
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't own a pair of Toms, but they sure are cute. And they have a good cause too :)
