Peter's off work this week, so we've been enjoying a pretty low-key and relaxing week with breakfasts/dinners with family members, mini reunions with old friends, more sleep, walks with the dog, pleasure reading, etc.
It's not entirely a vacation week for me: I'm still working (via the
portable office) some, but having Peter off and staying at parents' houses/the cottage bring lots of things that make the days better than your average weekdays (especially when you're Peter and can wake up in the morning thinking things like, "at work I would have finished rounding and be on the second case of the morning by now..."). Here are five of mine:
1.
Monday: a drive to Michigan sandwiched by breakfast out with Peter's parents and sister/brother-in-law in Cincinnati and dinner out with my parents and brother in Holland. It was quite nice having Peter along on the drive for once, especially the whole I didn't actually have to drive part. (His first trip home since August.)
2.
Tuesday: an afternoon hanging out with my mom - a nice walk and then a manicure/pedicure outing. And on the way home we happened upon a sign declaring free junior frostys at Wendy's.
3.
Wednesday: a morning (!) date with Peter to walk around downtown Holland (currently celebrating
Stemfest 2012) with pit stops for coffee and
candy.
4.
Thursday: a sunny day at the cottage with a good book and guacamole for lunch. Can't beat that.
5.
Friday: a "fun run" on the beach (I decided it's time to enjoy some relaxed pace/interesting location running once a week now that
race training is over). It was great - sand, waves, not a cloud in the sky - too chilly and windy for lounging on the beach of course, but hey, running keeps you nice and warm.
Lots of nice things already this week, and we still have a full weekend of Peter's vacation left to enjoy! Starting with finishing that book back at the cottage over happy hour, now that I've wrapped up a little work at the internet cafe/bookstore in town...
