this or that?

Okay, stylish internet friends, I need some advice. Peter got me a really great birthday present: I had posted about some knock-offs of the JCrew bubble necklace that I coveted, since I thought the actual version a serious splurge - but then he got it for me anyway (declaring that only the real thing would do for his wife). It was very sweet, and I love it, but ... is it too big for my 5'2" frame?

Without adjusting the clasp way up the chain - which I did for these photos - the bottom bead nearly reaches my belly button! While I have no problem with a statement necklace (and this one makes a serious statement), I'm worried it's dwarfing me.

JCrew Factory has a slightly smaller version that has a shorter chain and fewer baubles - and might be a better scale on a short person. Should I exchange it for that one? Or should I stick with the classic version?

  2. That. You are tiny and I agree it dwarfs you a bit. But way to go hubby!

  3. That. The this one is just too long & overpowering. Btw - love the color of your shorts!

  5. I think THIS looks great on you! But I think THAT would suit you better. Love both, either way. You look great!

  6. It would be so much better if the chain were shorter. Sooooooo, I am going with returning it for the other one.

  7. Great husband you have! Well the necklace is meant to be a statement necklace...so big is in!

  8. I say the shorter one because it's less of a "statement" and you will find you can incorporate it with so many more outfits! Also, take the extra money you saved and buy yourself another birthday present!!

  9. I love it! It is big, but I think it's adorable. I know how you feel though - I bet it's heavy and makes you feel self conscious.

    1. Dang, it is heavy! They should list the weight with all the other details on the website...

  10. I say the shorter one. If you want to make it longer, you can always clasp a bracelet to the back and you'll have "this" again! By the way, I have a knock off, but it's made by a blogging friend so I support it. Otherwise, I feel like it's just that - a knock off. Lucky girl to have the real deal! :)

  11. Your husband is so sweet! My vote is to get the shorter version- this one looks like it is weighing you down a bit. I wonder if the knock-offs are a bit smaller?

  12. If you are unsure, are you going to get the most out of it? Listen to your gut. That being said, if you shortened the chain even more, this one could work, too.

    1. Good point - when I splurge I always worry about getting enough use to make it worth the cost, so it's almost worth getting the smaller (and cheaper one) just so I don't fret about that. Thanks for the input!

  13. my guess is whoever modeled it at jcrew was a foot taller than you .... you're a little short, sweetie. i vote for the shorter one with props to hubby for his brilliance in wanting/getting you the thing you thought you wanted :-)

  14. Ooh what a great birthday gift! I really like both, so I think you should go with the one you think you would wear the most. I think I might like the shorter version better. Maybe because it's a little different? I don't know, both are cute!

  15. That's an awesome (and super thoughtful!) gift from your husband, but I'd probably go with the shorter one if I was petite. I'm sure you'll be more comfortable with fewer pounds of necklace around your neck!
