five things Friday: go for the gold (necklace) edition

Remember the big bubble necklace? That thing used to be my FAVE. But these days, I'm gravitating toward very understated and delicate necklaces - if I even wear one at all - especially as I trend toward making more of a statement with earrings or even with hair accessories. To that end, a few pretty gold necklaces have caught my eye recently:

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5

I like how versatile and timeless all of these are, with the simple shapes or the classic locket or monogram style, so that you can have some other accessory or part of your outfit stand out, but not feel totally bare and boring at the neckline. But then on the other hand I also love how great any of these options would be for layering - so you can play up the necklace part of your ensemble if you want by combining a couple of them in varying lengths to make them stand out a bit more.

The timeless look is also a nice way to do a keepsake or meaningful item - so it feels worth it to spend a little more if you want to do something that relates to your kids' initials or birthdays, your anniversary, your birthstone or zodiac symbol (or that of someone meaningful to you), because it won't go out of style.

Now to decide if I want to keep or donate the chunky necklaces I still have around (here's looking at you, J.Crew Factory clearance sales of yore) because who knows - they may be back in style before we know it! How about you? Have you joined me on the big earrings, little necklaces train?

p.s. here are a few recent outfits that showcase this combo: pink leather earrings + a delicate bar necklace, olive leather earrings + a pendant, gold leather earrings + charm necklace. And for old times' sake, a few oldies but goodies with those big baubles: the bubble necklace I wore nonstop, and the apparently whole suitcase-ful of chunky necklaces I once brought on vacation. I'm gratified that most of these at least are general ensembles I'd still wear, even if I wouldn't put them with the same necklaces today!
