We are supporters of rescuing a dog if you're looking to get a pet - we got Ginger from a shelter over 8 years ago - but what a great way to match people and pets without having to overcrowd shelters. Win-win-win situation to use this website, when there are people who unfortunately have to give up their pets but don't want to have to bring them to a shelter, and when there are lots of people out there ready to welcome a new best friend into their home.
And once you get your pup, here are a few suggestions for essentials they'll need in their new home: a collar and leash (I love fun prints, of course), a good ID to make sure they always find their way back home (this one slides right onto the collar, so you can avoid the annoying jangling tags), a cozy bed, and... the always-necessary poopy bags!

Here's my rescue pup - the day we brought her home, and then this winter, 8ish years later. This Cincinnati born dog has adjusted very well to Michigan winters, and look how much of an old lady she's turning into now! Lots of white hair on her these days. Somehow she still seems to have the same puppy energy any time I even so much as jangle the leash. Girl loves her walk. (For some more young Ginger, here she is on the first anniversary of her adoption.) Are you a dog rescuer too?
