wearing lately: athleisure faves

I really put some thought into this year's summer wardrobe, partly because I'm focusing on some COLOR thanks to my recent Created Colorful consult, but mainly because I know how much Freddie likes to be active outside, and how much walking around I do bringing Hendrik to various camps and visiting the farmer's market and such... I need to be comfortable and cool, both in terms of clothes and footwear, and definitely don't want to be flashing anyone at the playground in my normally preferred summer outfits of sundresses/t-shirt dresses - but just wearing my workout clothes around makes me feel not quite put-together enough.

Luckily the current athleisure trend of skorts and exercise dresses lends itself well to my toddler-chasing needs AND my stylish desires... but then it actually took me a while to figure out what tops to pair with the sporty skorts. I landed on long-line bras (no midriff shows on me with the high-waisted skort, but you don't have to deal with any figuring out how/if to tuck in situation) and a cropped tee as my go-to. Don't normally shop Old Navy even though I'm often tempted - the fit just usually is not there for me - but with the athleisure selections I've had great luck this summer for fit and for good pricing. And then linen shorts are a good compromise for something that's comfy/cool but not overly sporty. Bonus of it all is that it's cute with a denim jacket if there's a little chill in the air (not this week, woof).

Footwear was the final tricky component - I feel dumb walking around in my running shoes that look their full supportive selves, but my aging body needs a good shoe for all that time on my feet... my Rothy's sneakers actually work great for me when I want it to be more of an outfit but still be able to walk. I've now got a more streamlined pair of New Balance exercise shoes in white as well, which are more of a "day" look but good for more intensive walks. And then the comfy, waterproof Birks for just slipping on. Perfect trio of shoes for all the athetic-y wear. Also, I really like the thin no-show socks from Bombas for both of these sneakers - but at that price point hoping the knock-offs I ordered from Quince are just as good...

Oh and can't forget the sun protection! I'm trying out Supergoop's glow screen this year and am really liking it. It gives a nice overall glow, enough that I feel like I can mostly skip makeup in the summer, plus it goes on really smooth and silky, and it's SPF 40.

So that's my daytime summer wardrobe on repeat, until my upcoming work trip makes me a bit more formal - stay tuned for the packing list!
