mini me Monday: Primary Kid

It's been a while (too long) since I've featured some cute mini me style around here, but I have a new-to-me brand that I'm loving for kid basics: Primary Kids. All of the items are super versatile and great for daily play, all at quite reasonable prices - and best of all, with no characters or gender role (mis)shaping phrases to weed through. Instead, you get to pick from a huge range of happy colors!

My foray into this online shop was prompted by the fact that we cannot keep pants from falling off Hendrik, no matter what we've tried - elastic waist, adjustable waist, button waist, bigger size, smaller size... And then after getting a note home from preschool about the frequency of crack exposure (sheepish mom moment), I decided to give "nice" sweatpants a try. These joggers are really soft and still manage to look reasonably polished with a polo in a fetching color, and the sweatpant is nice and warm and well-fitted. The other thing I love about them is that they have drawstrings to cinch them up! Quite happy with the quality of the socks as well, which I decided to try as all of Hendrik's old ones had holes.

And then I couldn't help but pick out a couple of fun girl options - how sweet is this basic dress and capri legging combo?

Has anyone else tried these? Or found ways to keep pants from falling down besides resorting to sweatpants? I could use help there!

Not sponsored - I just like what they've got!

  1. Oh kids and their butt cracks! I *may* have snarked at our preschool teacher when she mentioned my daughter’s frequently exposed butt crack because I know my daughter doesn’t notice or care, and I’m pretty sure the other kids don’t notice or care. While yes, I’m well aware at some point it’s best not to be flashing your butt around, it just makes me sad that we’ve reached that age at 3. That being said, maybe there is more to the story (I don’t do pick up, so my snark was at night to my husband) so we’ve tried to do more tights and tunics.

  2. I bought the pink, short sleeve version of that dress for Aubrey this fall and she loves it! She's actually wearing it today with leggings and Converse. It's perfect because she feels like she's getting to dress up, but it's still holds up to school and play.

  3. LOL at least you got that note now and not when poor Hendrik is a few years older... he would be mortified for sure! We have that same issue here--Jona shot up in height recently but the corresponding waistband size is still pretty huge. The ones that have the inner elastic adjuster things work okay, but I'll have to check out this brand for more options. And of course for cute girl stuff too :)
