around the house: bigger kid playroom

The playroom is one of the first spots in our house to be all decorated after we moved in 4 years ago, partly because it's a room that got used tons from day one, but also because it was just so darn fun to pick out the bright and cheery stuff. But much as I still love the rug and curtains and everything, we've got a kid who is a whole 4 years older and a whole lot taller - so it was time to upgrade from the kiddie table and chairs! Here's a tour of Hendrik's slightly updated playroom now:

The room used to be more about the Duplos and Matchbox cars and pretend play in the teepee, but now at almost 6 years old, Hendrik spends tons of time drawing and building Lego sets, so that's what we're set up for now: a table and chairs better fitted to a growing boy (and better for not breaking our backs when we try to sit with him, compared to those kiddie chairs), an art cart for easy access to all of his supplies, wall clips for hanging up his masterpieces - and of course, many plastic bins for storing all of his Lego sets in the built-in drawers!

I can envision this turning into more of a homework and tv hangout zone with a little couch by the window and a desk instead of the table when he gets even older (especially because all of a sudden he is seeming SO old to me, with his first missing tooth...), but for an elementary school aged kid this is perfect.
