craving: some beach time - need to start taking advantage of living so close to Lake Michigan again! Luckily we have the 4th of July holiday weekend to spend at my happy place.

grilling: really haven't been preparing any meals lately thanks to the move - Hendrik and I have mostly been living at my parents' house, who are nice enough to feed us - but now that Peter is arriving today, I think we might have to try these grilled shrimp and quinoa bowls that I recently pinned for the first official dinner in our new house.

listening: to lots of podcasts, with three 5.5-hour long drives in the last 10 days. My new favorite is Gretchen Rubin's Happier podcast - they're only about 25 minutes long, so I made my way through all of them quite quickly, and I was thoroughly entertained plus have tons of ideas and inspiration for making my life happier. Definitely check this one out!

planning: some Chicago getaways, now that we're just a couple hour drive from this favorite city. Peter and I have been wanting to get to a Cubs game and one of Rick Bayless' restaurants, and my mom and I have some big furniture scoping plans for places Room & Board...

decorating: the new house! It will be a long time before any rooms are finished, given that it's twice the size of our old one, so there are lots of furniture decisions to make (and save up for), and lots of projects too. But I'm pretty excited about all this new space and its gorgeous light to play with, even if it does take years to get done.

  1. Beach time sounds like a great idea! It can be so hard to be patient when it comes to decorating a new house, can't it? We're in the same predicament… having so much more space to work with and feeling like there's so much we want to do. I guess sometimes the anticipation of the planning and saving can be fun too, though. :)

  4. I just left Chicago, I'm so jealous you live close! My favorite meal I ate there (and in the last year+) was at the Purple Pig - gorgeous Mediterranean tapas! If you go, try the bobota!

  7. I just started listening to Gretchen's podcast as well and love it too! Most of those self-help podcasts are an hour or more, so love how short and organized it is. I'll be going to a lake this weekend and that's my happy place too :) Water is good for the soul!!

  8. That grilled shrimp bowl looks amazing! I'm all about fresh seafood this summer, and everytime we've been dining out I get something with shrimp. I wish Lamar liked seafood so we could grill it! I'm craving some beach time too! I could really use a quiet beach weekend with Lamar. That would be so nice right now! I hope the moving has been going smoothly!

  9. Ooh beach time sounds just about perfect right now. I'm going to have to bookmark that shrimp dish too--I just bought a big bag of shrimp at Costco and need some more ideas for how to use it up! I'll have to check out that podcast too--I had a book by Rubin checked out from the library but had to return it before I got around to reading it, so this sounds more doable right now! :)

  15. Thank you for the podcast recommendation. I read Rubin's Happiness Project book a few years ago, and think I could really get behind some shorter doses of a similar message. Hope you can enjoy a break from the moving over the long weekend!

  19. Ooh! I'm not sure I knew that Gretchen Rubin had a podcast! I adore podcasts and listen to them a lot when I drive. Our new house is a little over an hour away from my job, so when the school year starts up again, I'm going to have to plan on loading up with some more podcasts to entertain me as I drive :)
