It can often be chilly in the mornings and evenings when we're staying on the lake, so it's always essential to have a good mix of layers. It's pretty casual since we don't tend to leave the cottage much when we get there, aside from going to the beach, but it's always nice to feel a bit pulled together when I come up from the beach and clean up for happy hour/dinner. For the 4th we also had a big extended family get-together to go to, so that was an excuse to dress up even a little more (plus make my family match me, ha!).
And while the color scheme was perfect for the holiday weekend, I think the nautical vibes make it fun all summer long, which is a good thing, because I didn't even come close to wearing all the possible outfit combinations on a 3-day weekend - so I think I'll just pack this same stuff up when we go back next weekend, and I'm good to go. Here are a few outfits I did wear, when I wasn't in my bathing suit (and here are a few outfits I wore from this same capsule on a different weekend):

If you've got some summer packing to do, here are some insights into how I plan my mix & match suitcases. Happy travels!

ReplyDeleteI'm somewhat envious of your layers. It's been 95-100* every day here so layers haven't been a possibility. I'm kind of dying to pull my chambray shirt back out.

Which part of Michigan did you just move back to? Because I also just moved back to the Mitten (in fact, I'm avoiding unpacking boxes right at this moment). Welcome home :)
ReplyDeleteThese posts that you do where you show how you actually combined your wardrobe items are so great! It makes the organizing/systemizing side of my brain so happy! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteLoving your style, as always! Where are your fave cardigans from? I couldn't tell if yours was the J Crew or Old Navy one?
ReplyDeleteAww, look at that cute family pic, I love how you all coordinate :) I want to wear all of this--all your pops of bright coral are making me happy! Hope you're enjoying being back near your family!
ReplyDeleteYou are such an amazingly talented outfit-putter-together. Is that an official term? If not, I'm going to trademark it now ;) But seriously! I love your style and I know I can come to your little corner of the web and get inspired!
ReplyDeleteI love that you made them match! And H's little smile is too cute!
ReplyDeletewhat i wouldn't give for some layers! i think layers might be appropriate in october down here? ugh. but anyways, your family is just too cute :) and i love all your outfits. i always hop on over to your blog when i have to pack for a weekend trip! you're so good at the mix-and-match and it helps me not overpack too much!
ReplyDeleteThis came at such a perfect time since I'm traveling soon and kind of freaking out over what I should pack! (Normally I fly places and have limited suitcase space, but with road trips I literally have the entire car... I don't want to go overboard, though, haha!)
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, I just love this! Your packing posts are always so fantastic!! I especially love that bright red cardigan - it adds such a nice, bright pop of color to your outfits :) And how wonderful that you live so close to your parent's cottage on the lake - what a wonderful thing to have access to, especially during the summers!
