wearing lately: October mix & match wardrobe

My September mini wardrobe was so much fun to work with that I thought I'd head toward another section of my closet to get some inspiration for what to wear in October: the neutrals. This little exercise isn't meant to restrict my options in any way; rather it should help me be excited about using what's in my closet - and when I put these neutral items together in this way, I most definitely am feeling enthusiastic about the bold outfit possibilities that black and white and camel can combine to make for any occasion, from casual to dressy:
In Residence | fall mix and match wardrobe for October: black, white, and camel

This October lineup has some repeats from last month, and a bunch of things that have been used for several seasons now, all helped along in being awesomer with one addition, a big splurge thanks to my partnership with Shopbop: a leather jacket! Rather excited about this one, because I'm always on the lookout for what can make my outfits more cool for going out - and what's cooler than a leather moto jacket?

For starters, it was the perfect way to take my striped dress from day to night for the transition from my recent afternoon of walking around at Art Prize to the evening wine bar reception. Snazzy, right? Looking forward to pairing it with the black jeans for a cool date night outfit soon...

This Madewell moto jacket is amazing, by the way. The leather is so buttery smooth and the perfect weight, and I love the cropped length and cool silhouette. It's a major splurge to be sure - but if you like the idea, check brands like BB Dakota and Blank Denim for vegan/faux options.

  1. I'm loving the leather jacket. I enjoy your wardrobe posts. I find planning capsule wardrobes time saving during the season. In the past, I would waste time trying to put together outfits and get so discouraged because nothing matched.

  2. Leather jackets are a huge splurge, but I think they make a big difference in outfits. Now, whenever I have my outfit on and I feel like it's missing something, I always add my jacket! I feel so much cooler in it, whether I'm wearing a dress, skirt, or jeans. It's perfect for everything!

  3. I'm dying to get a blanket scarf and booties. Why? I'm not entirely sure. It's hot as heck here (and will be forever). But they're just so dang cute!

  4. I'm serously going to model my fall wardrobe after this post. I'm half tempted to print it out and hang it on my closet door so I can remember what to wear. I think my husband may die of laughter if I do though; so maybe I'll just pin it ;)

  7. Ooh I LOVE the leather jacket Anne! Perfect big-ticket item splurge! It really does take that dress from cool to coolest. A leather moto-style jacket is something I always wish I had when I see it on others, but it's never something I really look for myself when I'm shopping. Maybe I'm not convinced I could pull it off? I don't know. But seeing this reminds me that YES, I do need one of those.
And more striped dress inspiration, yay! :)

  11. I love a versatile black+white striped dress, and that leather bomber jacket is the bomb! I love both outfits, but I like it slightly more with the cognac accents. So chic Ms. Anne. =)

  12. Sooo jealous about that jacket! The Madewell jacket is definitely my dream jacket but never one I could actually afford (unless I saved for a few months but I know myself and how impossible that would be, ha!).

  16. You're so dang cute, Anne! I really love the ways you've styled this striped dress - that jacket is fantastic and sooo up my alley! I am checking out the BB Dakota options right after this! I've been doing some semi-capsule wardrobes over the past several months kind of like how you're describing here, and it's been a great way for me to focus on styling different pieces, and it has made getting dressed much easier!
