gift grid: reads

For this year's final gift grid, I'm sharing suggestions for everyone in your life (him, her, them [friends, grandparents, etc], little mr, and little miss) for what they might like to READ. And I'm super excited about this one - I've categorized the selections into non-fiction, page turners, new releases, and picture books (i.e. super fun coffee table books), so there's really something for everyone.

Anything I haven't read on here is on my to-read list, so I think these are ALL good ones! But if you're really unsure of what someone might enjoy (or whether they've already read it), other great gift options for books are book-of-the-month type of subscriptions. I've done Book-of-the-Month Club and like that a lot (especially if you find a good intro deal) for the ability to choose a great new release from their slate of 5 each month - but also to skip a month if you don't like one of the options or your to-read shelf is too full already (common book lady problem!). Even better is supporting a local bookstore, and so I also highly recommend the Shelf Subscription from The Bookshelf (bookstore I learned about via a favorite podcast, From the Front Porch). You pick a staffer whose reading taste is most like your own (or your giftee's), and they send you a surprise pick each month. Seriously fun mail day - I went with Annie's selections, and the 3 months I got did not at all disappoint (Young Jane Young, Heating & Cooling, The End We Start From).

These are listed in no particular order, because that's just much too hard to do, but I will say that The End We Start From, Dear Ijeawele, and This is How it Always Is are the books I gave 5 stars in 2017; the rest had 4.5 or 4. And as a bonus: my top two audiobooks, both highly recommended, are Lincoln in the Bardo and Modern Romance.
