wearing lately: July weekend suitcase

If my go-to weekender wardrobe for June took advantage of the opportunity to play up the great summer neutral colors, then the July beach weekend suitcase is most certainly time to pull out the red, white, and blue mix & match palette (though of course that's actually coral, white, cobalt, in my wardrobe).

This dress is this year's addition to my lineup of fabulous fit & flare sundresses (see the striped version here - or here!), as I just couldn't resist it in this favorite cobalt shade. Such an easy piece to toss in the suitcase (doesn't wrinkle!) and pull on after a day at the beach, especially when paired with a great accessory like this necklace that I just can't stop wearing lately.

wearing lately: June weekend suitcase

Last summer, given the frequency of needing to pack a weekender bag for cottage trips (almost weekly) I came up with one summer weekend packing list per month to make things easy... a few mix and match items that I could just toss in the suitcase without having to think or plan and be ready for 2-3 days of fun in the sun (and also potentially chilly beach breeze). Given that I'm already two cottage weekends into summer 2016, I thought it would be a good idea to institute this policy again. Thus, for June:

striped shirt | jean jacket | graphic tee (similar) | white jeans (similar) | dress | patterned shorts (similar, similar) | sunnies | bikini (similar, similar) | espadrilles (similar) | birks | necklace | long cardigan (similar, similar) | beach hat

Most of these items are well-loved summer pieces that have previously shown up in mix & match summer or vacation wardrobes and that I'm excited to pull out again for this summer, but the open-knit sweater was a new find that's already become a beachy essential. A necessary layer for when the breeze off the water is cool, and it doubles as an easy breezy coverup for walking down to the beach.

Also a relatively new find: the Stella & Dot layered necklace. By (un)attaching one or more of the strands it can be worn 7 different ways, so it's super perfect for a mix & match suitcase addition. Definitely going to get a lot of wear this summer.
