wearing lately: holiday mix & match

Once your house is decorated, it's also nice to walk around feeling a bit festive yourself during the holiday season. There are some items in my wardrobe that definitely are suited to come out this time of year - the plaids, the pops of red, the chunky knits and faux fur - so while I'm in the window between the fall and winter capsules, I thought I'd dig through my closet for a mini holiday season mix & match wardrobe and make the most of them.

With just 15 items (3 pants, 1 skirt, 1 dress, 2 sweaters, 2 blouses, 3 tees, 3 shoes) and some accessories I have 15 different outfits (and there are more to be made, obviously) that take me through a whole range of Christmas parties - work, family, cookie decorating - and holiday events, as well as everyday wear with a little splash of festive and cozy thrown in. It's a great mix of inspiration/items from the holiday suitcase I put together last year, items from my fall capsule, and a few new acquisitions I made during the recent big sales in anticipation of the winter capsule.

Just as in doing the capsule thing for September through November, it's sooo helpful in getting dressed in the morning (or for an event, of which there are of course many this month) to have a limited number of pieces to choose from and some forethought on outfits to make with them, especially when I love all of these pieces. Plus it'll be handy when it comes to packing for our Christmas trip to Michigan!

What are you wearing this month?

  5. I really love both of the booties you included in this group of items! And the colors and prints you included do feel really festive. I originally was going to have my next capsule start this month to include December, January, and February but haven't had the energy yet since having my baby to prep for it so I'm cutting myself some slack and just wearing whatever feels comfortable for the rest of this month. :) Thankfully that's been items from my fall capsule!

  6. This whole interim mini capsule is genius Anne! My transition month has been a bit of a mess, so this is great inspiration. Especially those red pants! I love how you styled them. I almost forgot that I have a pair of red cords just waiting to be worn during the holiday season!

  9. Ohhh my gosh, I love all of these outfits, Anne!! It's making me so excited for my winter capsule to start - I just want to begin wearing my outfits now!!! I love how basically everything in your closet goes with everything else. Mine is still a bit disjointed, but I can't wait until it looks as cohesive as yours does once I start to whittle things down even more :) And everything you chose for your little holiday capsule is so dang festive!!!

PS. I made your M&M cookie pie for a holiday potluck tomorrow and I canNOT wait to dig into it!! It is adorable and smells deeeelicious! Eager to report back on how it tastes tomorrow!! ;) Thank you again for introducing it to me!
