snacking (on): I honestly don't snack much (it's Pretzel Crisps if I do!), but we just hosted a little backyard happy hour, and I brought back the super easy and delicious goat cheese spread, which is perfect as a little snack-y item with a cocktail or beer.

anticipating: my first triathlon, coming up this weekend! It's a pretty low-key, short-distance event, so I think the biking and running parts will be quite fun actually - I just need to survive the swim portion to be able to get to them. Eeek, kind of nervous. Hopefully these tips will help me be as prepared as I can be!

borrowing: a bunch of Kindle books from the library, thanks to the foresight to put in advance holds as soon as I heard about their upcoming release (also, this is much to my mother's dismay, since she can't then borrow them from me). Really enjoyed Matthew Quick's newest, The Reason You're Alive, as well as Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore - I can't pass up a mystery that involves booksellers!

admiring: Jenna's amazing floral creations via her Instagram feed. She and I started this linkup together originally, and while I miss having her around, getting to watch her Gold & Bloom floral business take off from afar has been such a treat, and I always wish there was something stronger than a "like" button for every photo she shares, I think they're so gorgeous and inspirational.

purchasing: a KitchenAid stand mixer, if I can ever decide what color to get. Was first thinking gray would look sharp in my new kitchen, but my mom's suggestion that I go for my signature color has me rethinking...

Now, Shea (of Shea Lennon) and I would love to know what you're currently up to as we launch into August! Share your posts below, and please remember to be courteous and link up only posts on the theme, and visit/comment on some others.

On September 6, guest host Lowanda of Sunshine and Elephants and hope you'll join us to talk about what you're currently celebrating, watching, welcoming, preparing, and photographing.

  1. Way to go on the triathalon! Those pretzel chip things are so addictive! Last winter I was all about them but I think I did myself in on them ha! What color shall you choose for the mixer....fun stuff. Have a terrific day :)

  3. You will never regret the KitchenAid stand mixer! I hate large "small" appliances and KitchenAid is the largest of large but I love mine. I originally got mine in red but the minute I got it home, I did regret it and exchanged it for grey, but I'm also very hesitant when it comes to big bright colours that can't be easily changed.

  5. Mmm, I love those pretzel crisps, and I bet they'd be even better dipped in some goat cheese. Ooh, a new stand mixer, that is a fun purchase for sure. I got a red one as a (wonderful!) wedding gift 11 years ago, and it's still going strong. I love that thing. Good luck on your first triathlon!
    Thanks for having me co-host!

  6. Good luck with your triathalon! I love goat cheese so that spread sounds delicious. I also check out new book releases and put them on hold at the library. I just prefer to read the actual books rather than read on my kindle!

  7. So exciting on your first triathalon! I did one last summer and I was also nervous for the swim portion, but I did pretty well. It's such an empowering experience, I'm so excited for you! We have a persimmon colored Kitchen Aid but I kind of love it, it has a fun retro feel!

  11. I love goat cheese with fig jam! One reason I don't snack is once I start I can't stop! My last triathlon was when my middle child was 3 months (he's 19...)! I prefer running. Training for a half! Good luck on that race!

  12. Love Pretzel Crisps! In fact, I enjoy them 100% more than regular pretzels. Our KA stand mixer is red and I absolutely love it. It fits perfectly in our kitchen!

    Good luck on your triathlon!

  14. Good luck at your triathlon! Funny story about kitchen aid mixers -- I registered for one and I wanted a color but Jordan was concerned it'd clash with potential kitchens. I chose white and he totally regrets pushing me to get a neutral as most kitchens are neutral! I don't mind though -- I was just happy to get one!

  16. When you get your Kitchenaid, use it to shred cooked chicken. It's so easy and make shredded chicken within minutes.

  17. Good luck with your triathlon! I've looked at sprint distance ones before, but right now, I'm so out of shape that I'm not sure if I could even complete one part of it!

Have you tried the buffalo flavor Pretzel Crisps? I'm usually a sweet snacker, but I can demolish an entire bag of these in one sitting!

  18. Good luck at your triathlon! I've done a couple but since going back to work, training has been so challenging. I'm doing a sprint as a relay in a couple weeks (supposed to do the bike but have NOT biked lately - EEK!!)

Mmm goat cheese - Trader Joes has some flavored ones (honey, blackberry) that are delicious! :)

  19. Just wow on all of those beautiful flowers from Gold and Bloom!!! I don't think you can go wrong on the stand mixer. I still have my original cobalt blue even though it doesn't go with my kitchen anymore it still looks gorgeous and is one of my favorite things ever!

  22. Pretzel Crisps are so good. I cannot pass up the dark chocolate ones.. or stop eating them either! I've heard such good things about KitchenAid mixers and that they last forever too. Good luck on the triathlon! That sounds like a lot of fun!

  24. Ha! Wrote and published my post then forgot to link up. It is really crummy getting old. Would love to know more about your triathalon. You mentioned short distances. Would love to do one if the distances were short enough!! And I would need SHORT.

Had to check out Jenna's floral creations for myself and you are right, they are stunning. What a talent.

Thanks for the fun link-up. Maybe next month I will remember to link-up!!!
